Cruisin for a Bruisin

It’s been a rough road back to health from my most recent travel overseas.  Even after I returned to the U.S., I was ill for a little over a month, and have paid over $1,200 in medical expenses (after insurance) for all kinds of tests and medical appointments.  I even had a CT scan for precaution.  Fortunately most of the sickness went away eventually once I got back to the U.S. (and out of India).  India is a rough place to be physically.  It’s kind of like being beaten when you’re young.  Ultimately it makes you stronger, but it leaves some emotional/mental scarring.

I didn’t particularly enjoy Delhi that much.  It’s uber polluted, busy, crowded, corrupt, filthy, and smells like urine and feces for starters, but it does have some moderate to terrific sight seeing opportunities.  The day after going to the BLK Super Specialty hospital in Delhi, I piled into a tuk-tuk with a new friend I met at my hostel and toured the city for the entire day.  For both of us in the tuk-tuk for an all day tour, it cost 1,000 India rupees (or roughly ($14 US total, or $7 each).  That fee was for all 7-8 hours of touring.  For 2,000 rupees we could have had a car and private driver, which was definitely a better option, mostly because of the pollution on the roads and in Delhi in general, but we were keen to get a tuk-tuk.  If I had to do it all over again, I’d take a tuk-tuk rental for short trips and not for an all day tour around of the largest and most polluted cities in the world.

Buckle Up

With that said, I’m just starting to go through some photos and video from my recent round the world trip.  I bought a stabilizer and really nice compact travel camera (Panasonic Lumix ZS200S) that I was trying out.  Here’s a short little video to give you an idea of what tuk-tuk travel was like on a normal morning through the streets of New and Old Delhi.  The video takes place just outside my hostel on the way to a major landmark in Delhi, the Jama Masjid Mosque.
