Alive….Again
A few months ago, and shortly after after trying to make a gas purchase with one of my American Express cards, I found out my accounts were closed. Myself, along with hundreds of others (possibly more), had their credit cards shutdown. I wrote about the issue before and won’t rehash it all here, but since then all of my accounts have been reinstated. It should be noted that not all of those who had been shutdown have had their cards reinstated. Some have had portions of their accounts reactivated, while others are still blacklisted and shutdown. The whole thing, from start to finish, is really bizarre.
Die Another Day
Although the details around reinstatement are interesting, I’m not going to elaborate here on the details of my reinstatement. The whole thing just gives me the heebie jeebies. I can say that it took nearly two months that included many emails and calls for things to get resolved positively. During that time I did explore legal angles and had data points of various kinds from others, which all helped. I’ve also shared information with others individually, in private groups, and left comments online that have helped others to get their accounts reinstated too. With that said, although I believe there are best practices getting reinstated in this particular situation with Amex, there’s no single path you can take that will for sure get all of your accounts back.
